On May 1, 2008, the City of Bainbridge Island tested an emergency flotilla which will ensure that essential City staff are able to get to work if the Agate Pass Bridge becomes impassible in an emergency.
26 City employees made the trip from the Kitsap Peninsula to the Island. Also participating were teachers from IslandWood and staff from Kitsap Transit and the Bainbridge Island Fire Department. Ground transportation was provided by community partners including the Senior Center, Bainbridge Island Park and Recreation Department, Boys and Girls Club and Messenger House.
